A proof-of-state documentation app. Photos are cryptographically hashed and timestamped at the instant of capture, geotagged, and carried forward in an append-only chain of custody, so what you photographed and when you photographed it can be verified by somebody who was not there.
A photograph used to be evidence on its own. It is not anymore. Metadata is trivially editable, timestamps come from a clock the photographer controls, and the question of whether an image was generated rather than captured is now a reasonable one to ask about any picture.
That matters most in the least glamorous places: an insurance adjuster documenting hail damage, a contractor recording the state of a site before work starts, a tenant photographing a unit on move-in day. All of them are making a claim about what something looked like at a particular moment, and none of them currently have a way to prove it.
Witness closes that gap at the moment of capture rather than after the fact, which is the only point where it can be closed honestly.
Witness is an internal Locke Werks product still being built. The source is private, there is no public release, and it is not on an app store.
